What If God Really Doesn't Exist?

A few days ago, during an inter-city journey, I was thinking about a lot of things and this question popped up in my mind. 'What if God really doesn't exist?' To be honest, it's not the first time that question has come to my mind. However, the other times, I'd just ignore it. I never tried to answer it because I didn't think I had a good enough answer for it.

What I Did In June 2015

June 2015 was my best month so far, in a long time. Weeks ago, I told you guys in this post that I lost my 2 jobs (one as a part time writer for a startup and the other as an intern in a consulting firm). I didn't lose those jobs because I was incompetent. What I might not have told you was that losing them was God's way of taking my own options off my plate and leaving me to face His plan for my life.

Towards the end of the month of May, I started to feel a bit overwhelmed by all the work I had to do: I had this blog and the #100DaysOfGrowth project to manage, I had to churn out weekly articles for a startup in an area that wasn't my forte (business and startups articles), and I was working at a consulting firm in Lagos as a Social Media Intern (a job that I obviously wasn't very skilled at). I was wearing myself down so much and it had me worried.

The 7 Best Books I've Read in 2015

In 2014, I read less than 25 books and I was disappointed in myself at year's end because I knew I could do better. So, in 2015, I aimed higher and I've started well. The plan is to read at least 40 books in 2015, and I am happy to say I'm on track to hit that target.
So far, I have read 18 books. Some have been useful, some haven't been while some others have had great effect on me. Of all the books I have read, these are 7 of the best. I have listed them in numerical descending order and in order of impact. Some (or all) you might have read, and some you might not have. However, I'll advice you to take note of and look for them if you don't have them already.
Here they are:

My Early Morning Thoughts on Purpose

I woke up very early this morning and wrote this short epistle on my life and purpose.

When I was a kid, I had dreams of becoming a scientist, a painter, a sketcher, a writer and so much more. I wanted to be a lot of things for a lot of reasons. And I had all the talents and inclinations to go with my dreams.
Growing up, I started to learn that it is not good for a man to do or be too many things. That the world we live in is a world of specialization and blah blah blah. I allowed what the world said to get to me, so I started streamlining.
However, over the past 2 years, I have discovered that this type of life- the streamlined, specialized life- is not for me. I mean, all of the people I look up to do not fit into one box. They are many things and do many things. People like Leonardo da Vinci, William Shakespeare, Count Leo Tolstoy, Leke Alder, etc.
I have found out that I am not born to be what people want from me neither am I born to fit into convention. I will be many things and I will do many things, it's just a matter of time.
What are you born to be and do? Do you know it yet? If you don't, you need to find out quickly and live your life the way you're meant to. God bless you.

So, what is your purpose? And what inspires you?

10 Things I Have Learned from #NigeriaDecides

It's been an intense and educative couple of days for me on Twitter, following the presidential elections events. I have never been so concerned about politics as much as I have been in the past four days. I have never stuck to Twitter as much as I have in the past four days. A lot has happened during this #NigeriaDecides period. Here are some things I have learned about Nigeria and Nigerians:

12 Things I Learned From The Alchemist

I haven't posted in a while, partly because of poor internet connection and also because I've focused more on reading than writing for this blog. But I'm back now and I'd like to share some things with you in this post. Here are 12 lessons I learned from reading Paulo Coelho's The Alchemist. I recommend the book for you lot.

What Are You Living Up To?

People live up to what they have written down. According to the Harvard Business Review (HBR OnPoint 2001, PN* 7915), once someone puts something in writing, the odds that he or she will fulfill the commitment greatly increases.

How to Stay Motivated Through Tough Times

Recently, I went through a rough patch. I dare say it was a wilderness experience. I was on the brink of giving up on my dreams, goals and aspirations and in dire need of a jolt. All motivation to continue writing and helping people was being lost gradually. However, that’s passed now and I’ve been able to draw lessons from it. These lessons have spurred me on and have helped me remain motivated and not give up.
One thing I learned and understood (which is pretty much not a new thing) is that tough times, rough patches and wilderness experiences are inevitable. Just as you can’t avoid road bumps in Osun state or portholes on a normal Nigerian road, you can’t avoid tough times. Anyone who’s under the impression that only they are facing problems, challenges and tough times is simply deceiving himself or herself. These tough times are times when you feel no desire to go on, when it feels like God and the universe are against you and no one cares what happens to you. Some people face them more often than others. Tough times are unavoidable, but one thing is sure, like Robert Schuller’s book says, ‘Tough times never last…’. So, how does one maintain momentum during such times?

Let Him that Stands Take Heed…

I’m currently enrolled in an Entrepreneurship and Employability Skills Development programme and yesterday was the first day. During the morning session, we were asked to submit our resumes (CVs) and I did just that. Before then, we had been advised to come along with it so I took my time to go through mine and revise it. I wanted it to be excellent, and it was –at least that’s what I thought. When we were asked to submit our CVs for vetting, mine wasn’t even looked at a second time. It was declared ‘not good enough’. When I heard this, I started boiling inside. I was really pained. I thought I had a good resume until that very moment. After the CVs and Cover Letter Writing class, I finally knew why my CV wasn’t good enough.

5 Things I Did to Overcome Low Self Esteem

While in secondary school, I battled with low self esteem. I struggled to make people like me. Hell! I was obsessed with making people like me. Also, I always let every insult or bad joke about me get to me. I was constantly looking for people's approval. Honestly, I didn't really know what I wanted from life. However, as I got ready to commence life in the university, I decided within me that things were going to change. From that little fella who suffered from low self esteem and the constant threat from others, I have been able to grow and become a better, more confident (sometimes nearly arrogant) young man and I want to share with you FIVE important things I did. I hope they can help you too:

A Tale of a Poor Man and the City

A long time ago, many years BC, there was a small city. In the city, there were but a few men and women. As small as that city was, it had everything. It had ample resources and was an enviable commercial hub in that region. The rich were very rich and the poor were, well, also very poor. Typical society it was. In fact, this city, though small, was so prosperous that it caught the attention of another city’s king.

12 Important Things to Note from KFC’s Beginnings

  1. Harland Sanders’ idea for a restaurant was based on customers’ suggestions. In the 1930s, Harland was running a petrol station along a road in Corbin, Kentucky. Whenever customers came to his filling station to buy petrol, they would ask where they could get food from nearby. From many questions and conversations about this, he opened his first restaurant in the front room of the petrol station.

17 Things Extraordinary People Do Daily

Article originally appeared on Inc.com.

Want to achieve extraordinary goals? Take these easy, proven steps every day.
Some people seem to get ahead, no matter what. They aren't necessarily smarter, more creative or harder working than many others. Still, they achieve much more than their peers. Why is that?
The philosopher Aristotle offered an explanation a really, really long time ago: "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence is not an act, but a habit."
I meet some of these amazing, extraordinary people just about people every day, as part of my job. They're amazing entrepreneurs, leaders, artists and innovators, and their keys to success aren't complex. Rather, it's the cumulative effect of their simple daily habits.

Here are 17 things the most extraordinary people do every day:

5 Factors That Characterized Adidas at the Start

  1. Passion. Adolf Dassler (Adi) was an enthusiastic sportsman who had passion for extreme sports. Adi even built his own ski jump. Adi was a runner as well and this enabled him to spot a gap in the sports market: the need for more quality sports shoes. In starting your own business, you must make sure that you begin something that you have strong passion for.

The Burdens of Wealth and Talent

Many of the biggest failures in life have, sadly, been people who came from wealthy backgrounds or people who, at one point in their lives, were touted to become the ‘new Messi’, the ‘new Denzel Washington’, the new ‘Steve Jobs’, and so on. The essence of this article is not is deride anyone but rather to motivate the one who thinks he or she comes from an insignificant background and so has to remain insignificant or that he or she cannot amount to much in life because their talents don’t seem spectacular enough.

The Idea of Effective Communication: Keep it Simple

Read this story from John Maxwell’s Everyone Communicates, Few Connect:
A few years ago, I was being interviewed on a television talk show. The host held up a couple of my books and said, “John. I’ve read several of your books, and they are all so simple.” His tone of voice, body language, and mannerisms made it clear to me and the audience that he did not mean it as a compliment! My response was straightforward: “That’s true. The principles in my books are simple to understand. But they are not always simple to apply”. The audience applauded, and he conceded that what I said was right.

Andrew Thompson’s story is a perfect plot for any movie that would be titled ‘There Today, Gone Tomorrow’. By the time he was 21, Andrew had amassed a $2.5 million fortune. This money he made from advertising revenues from his website, MySpaceSupport.com. The website was created to help Myspace users to decorate their pages. Andrew gathered many Myspace friends and would market his site to them.
