This is what the book is about:


James Pearce fresh out of college and has been at home for a month, doing nothing but anticipating the 12-month Nigerian National Youth Service (NYSC).
During the service year James meets Theresa who is engaged to be married but unsure and tormented by her engagement. James is obsessed with her and tries to make her his, but must also confront the ghosts from his past, as well as those from a time long before his own.
