How to Become a Person of Value

We’ve talked about the Law of Value Addition (Read about it here) and now it is important we learn how to become such persons. So here are simple ways through which you can become a person who’s constantly making life better for others (these are but a few, the list is inexhaustible):

  1. Be selfless. One of the biggest challenges we face now is that of selfishness and greed. People who are out to satisfy themselves at the detriment of others. This is the problem that has plagued my country, Nigeria, and is still plaguing us today. A person of value must learn how to be selfless. A person of value must learn the habit of sacrificing his own pleasures for the greater good. That’s how value is added.
  2. Learn how to contribute, instead of looking for ways to gain. It is not bad to make profits, but it should be done in the good way. There are several entrepreneurs out there who have made tons of profit while also adding great value to society. We have the likes of Bill Gates who, in recent years, has been going round the planet trying to create cures and eradicate diseases in developing nations; we have Aliko Dangote whose empire is built mainly on the production and exporting of basic food stuff and the everyday commodity. You can make money while contributing positively to people’s lives.
  3. Develop a positive attitude and a positive mentality. No one can ever go far with a negative mentality and a negative attitude. It is said that a bad attitude is like a flat tire, you can’t go anywhere with it. People who add value are people with the positive attitude to things. People who grumble and complain about everything and anything cannot be persons of value. Instead of looking at the problems around you and criticizing the government or whoever’s in charge, look for ways to make a difference and cause positive change.
  4. Learn the habit of sacrifice and discipline. You can’t indulge and waste yourself and expect to make a difference in this life. Everyone who has made impact and has added value to lives has learned and is learning to sacrifice and be disciplined. I can’t stress how important this is. Learn to stop living for yourself alone because the future of so many people are tied to yours.
