How to Overcome Pornography: Identify Your Triggers

We have looked at the first step to recovery and overcoming porn addiction. We understand that we must acknowledge the problem can ruin us before we can actually overcome the addiction. The next step to overcoming porn addiction is to identify those things that trigger your craving to watch it. Different people have different triggers. For some people, it’s an emotion that triggers it and for some others it is something they see that triggers them. Whoever you are, and you’re addicted to porn, there is a particular thing that will trigger the longing within you. It is your responsibility to identify what that trigger is. I call it your responsibility because, quite frankly, no one will do it for you. It’s for you to take responsibility for yourself and step up your game if you truly want to rid yourself of this addiction.
Furthermore, some triggers could include movies that you watch that may not seem ‘bad’ at that point but somehow end up pushing you to go to that porn site or buy that CD again. For some people, it may be in a state of emotional stress that they succumb to the temptation and the craving becomes stronger than ever, so identify that emotional state that causes it and begin to work on steps that will help you out of it. These are things that no one can do for you because no one knows you more than yourself. You know your strengths and weaknesses. The best way to device a good strategy is for you to sit down and understand yourself then for you to evaluate your situation and then device means to handle it. You can also make use of good friends. These friends will help you to curb these cravings when they arise but you must be honest with them and they must be friends you can truly trust.

Next week we shall look at another step on how to cut off your sources.
