HOW TO OVERCOME PORNOGRAPHY ADDICTION

In my life, I have come to discover that people have problems and closeted issues they are not proud of. They have problems they think they cannot deal with or issues they are too afraid to face. Many times, they do not even know how to face these issues. The issues are addictions and they are ruining lives and relationships daily. Of all the issues I know, PORNOGRAPHY seems to be the most prominent and rampart yet, the one people least admit to. Yeah, porn, as it is popularly called, has damaged several lives, marriages and destinies. The amount of children who have been exposed to pornography is overwhelming to the extent that it is now becoming a global issue. Yet no one seems to be doing much about it. I walk into rooms and then I see a fellow with the guilty look on his face. He’s feeling bad about what he just did; right before I walked in. It is so easy to access porn. Just a click of your mouse and SWOOP, you’re in. With all said and done, people need to know how they can overcome this cankerworm that is eating them up inside. The truth is, some people do not see anything wrong with it. Here are some reasons to stop watching porn in the first place:

  1. It’ll ruin your sex life.
  2.  It saps you of precious energy.
  3. It boosts social anxiety and awkwardness.
  4.  It hinders and disturbs your relationships, especially with the opposite sex.
  5. It drains you of your precious resources because it’s magnetic and gives you that insatiable hunger for more.

Now, here are some simple steps to take to overcome it:
  1. Admit and understand that it is a problem and it can ruin you. You must be ready and humble enough to accept the solutions coming your way.
  2. Identify your triggers. Know the things that you do that trigger the craving to watch porn. Device a feasible and realistic strategy to stay away from those triggers. If you can’t do it alone, ask a trusted friend to help out.
  3. Cut off your sources. Scratch or break those DVDs, use parental or security soft-wares for your browser. If you have to, stop your BlackBerry subscription. At all cost, sever all ties with porn.
  4. Employ the aid of accountability partners. They could be friends, family (if they won’t judge you), mentors, roomies, the list goes on. Report regularly to these accountability partners so they’ll monitor your progress for you.
  5.  Fill your life with light. Watch a video about how to live a Christ-centered life through service, prayer, and faith. Learn how to go to church, not to mark attendance, but to experience God and fellowship with the believers.
  6. Keep a diary. Be accountable for your own progress too.
  7. Make sure you read your Bible and talk with God daily. It always helps to be spiritually consistent even though you may encounter momentary lapses. Nature abhors vacuum. If you don’t fill yourself with light, darkness will reign supreme in your life. If you don’t have the Word of God to keep you and to walk by, the cravings will return and they will be stronger and you will easily relapse. Stay with God.
Over the coming weeks, I will be expatiating on these steps. So, please stay with me as we go through this journey together. You can also help out by suggesting some ways you know can help people.
