LET'S TALK ABOUT INTEGRITY

This topic of integrity is one topic that we definitely do not hear much about anymore or so it seems. This morning in our university chapel, our Pro-Chancellor talked about it. Listening to him made me realize how much of this virtue we are lacking nowadays. Few people can actually stand as persons of integrity when we look at it in the real sense of what that word means. And please don't tell me that it is hard to judge a book by it's cover, it ain't. In this present times it has become a norm for people to tell lies and cover up the evil happening around them. It's so sad. Furthermore, integrity should not be limited by situation. This means that holding on to your integrity should not be as occasion serves you. Rather, it should be constant. Integrity should be embedded in your personality and not your actions.
In case you have doubts on what integrity is, let me give you some definitions of integrity:

• Integrity is goodness and uprightness of character.
• Integrity means moral soundness. Integrity molds your ethics and your perspective on life.
• Integrity is truthfulness. It compels you to say the truth at all times in every place.
• Integrity is forthrightness. It means to be blunt and straight to the point. It implies being predictable in telling the truth and doing the right thing always.
• Integrity means to be sincere. It means to be genuine and open and without hypocrisy.

Also, here are the things you need to know about integrity:

1. Integrity is a personal thing. It is for you and from you. It cannot be transferred onto another person.
2. Integrity is tangible. This means it can be seen and felt. If your integrity is not seen and felt by others then it is not truly integrity.
3. Integrity is not affected by circumstances and situations. It stands true and firm at all times and for all reasons.
4. Integrity provokes confidence. This means that the person  of integrity has nothing to fear because God always loves a person of integrity.

"In looking for people to hire, look for 3 qualities: INTEGRITY, INTELLIGENCE and ENERGY.  If they don't have the first (INTEGRITY) the other 2 will kill you."

Mark Twain also said: "If you will tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything."
