THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS

For me, it is true that it’s the little things in life that matter most. “Little drops of water make a mighty ocean.” Many people rely on success, wealth and influence to be fulfilled in life. Shallow thinking. Most of the time it’s the little things we count as unimportant that make us fulfilled and truly happy e.g. a relationship with your children, quality time with your spouse and children, family members, etc.
Sitting with my roommate and having an extensive conversation on his experiences with friends and many other things, my eyes have been open to what true happiness is. Hitherto, I had considered happiness to be a function of one’s success or achievements in life- I guess I was one of the shallow-minded folks roaming earth today.
What is success if happiness is not involved? What is happiness if our loved ones aren’t included? For me now, true happiness lies in the seemingly little things that matter most: family, friends, the everyday conversations with colleagues, the arguments, the conflicts- all the indelible memories, memories that last a lifetime.
This is a shout out to those out there who value what they ought to, a thank you to my roommate, salute to those know the importance of the little things. In life, as I now know, it’s not the huge accomplishments that make me happy; rather it’s the little things that do and go through every day that count for true happiness.
